Universal to make 'Dumb and Dumber' sequel

LOS ANGELES, June 19 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Universal Pictures is to make a sequel to "Dumb and Dumber" after Warner Bros. passed on the project, its writer-producers announced via Twitter.

"It's official: Dumber and Dumber To is going to production with @RedGranitePics and @UniversalPics!!!" fraternal filmmakers Bobby and Peter Farrelly tweeted Tuesday.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news with Universal and said the film could begin shooting this summer for a release next year.

The 1993 comedy's original stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have signed on to reprise their roles as dim-witted best friends.
