LAS VEGAS, June 10 (UPI) -- Erin Brockovich-Ellis, whom Julia Roberts won an Oscar for playing in 2000, has apologized for her weekend boating-while-intoxicated arrest in Nevada.

"At no time was the boat away from the dock and there was no public safety risk," she said in a statement Sunday, two days after her arrest on Lake Mead.

"That being said, I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake. I know better and I am very sorry," she said. "After a day in the sun and with nothing to eat it appears that a couple of drinks had a greater impact than I realized."

The 52-year-old legal consultant and environmental activist was arrested after a game warden spotted her having trouble docking her motor boat at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor. She was booked into the Clark County Detention Center after failing field sobriety tests, but released after posting $1,000 bail, People.com said.
