Charlie Sheen billed by birth name in upcoming film

LOS ANGELES, May 26 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Charlie Sheen is being billed by his birth name, Carlos Estevez, in the upcoming film "Machete Kills," directed by Robert Rodriguez.

A screen grab of the intro to the film, due in theaters Sept. 13, shows a red and black portrait of the former "Two and a Half Men" star posing with a gun with the words "And introducing Carlos Estevez," the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

Sheen, 47, plays a U.S. president who hires assassin Machete Cortez, played by Daniel Trejo, to "battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space," IMDB.com said.

Sofia Vergara, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lady Gaga, Vanessa Hudgens, Amber Heard and Demian Bichir are set to appear in the film, the Times said.

It is unclear why Sheen chose to use his birth name for the first time. The more dramatic role is a departure from his usual comedic characters, the Times said.
