LOS ANGELES, May 24 (UPI) -- The gown Nicole Kidman wore to France's Cannes Film Festival was not the same frock Anne Hathaway initially planned to wear to the Oscars, Valentino said.

Kidman wore an ivory lace Valentino Haute Couture dress to the premiere of her new film "Nebraska" Thursday, sparking media buzz it was the same ensemble Hathaway originally intended to wear to the 2013 Academy Awards. She ultimately chose a Prada confection because she discovered another actress planned to wear a similar dress by another designer to the Oscars.

A Valentino representative told UsMagazine.com the ensemble Kidman wore to Cannes was a different dress than the one Hathaway had been considering.
