Scorsese to present Brooks with AFI's highest honor

LOS ANGELES, May 20 (UPI) -- Director Martin Scorsese is to present Mel Brooks with the American Film Institute's 41st Life Achievement Award, organizers announced.

The private black-tie gala will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood June 6. The ceremony is to air on TNT June 15 and as part of an all-night tribute to Brooks on Turner Classic Movies July 24.

"Brooks will be recognized for his range of mastery as a director, producer, writer, actor and composer," AFI said in a news release.

Among Brooks' comedy classics are "The Producers," "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein."
