Oscar nomination day moved forward

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences says it has bumped up its Oscar nomination announcement by five days.

The Academy said the schedule was changed to provide members and the public a longer period of time to see the nominated movies before the Oscars are awarded.

Nominees for the 85th Academy Awards nominations are to be announced Jan. 10, five days earlier than previously announced.

The awards for the previous year's best in films will be handed out Feb. 24 at The Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood. The ceremony will be televised live by the ABC Television Network.
