NEW YORK, June 15 (UPI) -- Jerry Lewis' publicist says the 86-year-old comedy icon has been released from a New York City hospital after he was treated for low blood sugar.

Lewis collapsed Tuesday night before he was to present Tom Cruise with the Friars Entertainment Icon Award. He spent Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in the hospital and was discharged Thursday.

Lewis' representative Candi Cazau told the New York Post Thursday night Lewis was "released from the hospital, and... getting ready to return to work."

Lewis is preparing to direct a stage musical based on his 1963 movie "The Nutty Professor." The show will play Nashville first, starting next month, then head to Broadway, the Post said.
