Screenwriter Tonino Guerra dead at 92

ROME, March 22 (UPI) -- Italian screenwriter and television commercial star Tonino Guerra has died in his Apennine home, his family said. He was 92.

ANSA confirmed his Wednesday death, but did not report the cause.

Guerra began writing in a World War II prison camp. He went on to work with iconic filmmakers Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni and Theo Angelopoulos and was presented with Italy's highest civilian honor, the title Cavaliere di Gran Croce dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana, in 2003.

He is survived by his wife Lora and son, movie and TV composer Andrea Guerra, ANSA said.
