'Lorax' way on top at U.S. box office

LOS ANGELES, March 4 (UPI) -- The animated "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax," with the voice of Danny DeVito, raked in a whopping $70.7 million for the No. 1 U.S. box office spot during the weekend.

"Project X," a comedy with an ensemble cast, was a distant second with more than $20.77 million.

All studio estimates of gross U.S. box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Act of Valor" was third with $13.7 million; "Safe House" fourth with $7.2 million; "Tyler Perry's Good Deeds" fifth with $7 million; "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" sixth with more than $6.92 million; "The Vow" seventh with $6.1 million; "This Means War" eighth with more than $5.62 million; "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" ninth with $4.7 million.

"The Artist," which just won Oscars for best picture, director and actor, rounded out the top 10 with $3.9 million.
