Broadcast Film Critics to honor Scorsese

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- America's Broadcast Film Critics Association says it plans to honor "Hugo" director Martin Scorsese with its Critics' Choice Music+Film Award.

Scorsese will be presented with the honor at the 17th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards at the Hollywood Palladium Jan. 12. The ceremony is to air live for the fifth straight year on VH1.

Selected by the BFCA Board of Directors, the Music+Film Award celebrates a single filmmaker who has heightened the impact of his or her films through the use of source and original music, the organization said in a news release Tuesday.

"This year's Critics' Choice Movie Awards marks another gratifying collaboration with the Broadcast Film Critics Association and our partners at VH1," Joey Berlin, the BFCA's president, said in a statement. "With a very impressive lineup of films featuring the world's biggest stars under consideration this year, we look forward to a truly spectacular show highlighted by the presentation of the Music+Film Award to Martin Scorsese, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time."

Scorsese's big-screen dramas include "Mean Streets," "Taxi Driver," "GoodFellas," "Gangs of New York," "The Aviator," "The Departed" and "Shutter Island." He has also worked with iconic music artists on documentary/concert films such as "The Last Waltz" with The Band, "Shine a Light" with the Rolling Stones, "No Direction Home" with Bob Dylan and "George Harrison: Living in the Material World."
