Universal Orlando closing 'Jaws' ride

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Universal Studios Orlando says it is permanently closing its "Jaws"-themed boat ride next month but offered no details about the attraction replacing it.

Inspired by Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster by the same name, the "Jaws" ride was one of the original attractions when the amusement park opened in 1990.

"'Jaws' has been an amazing attraction and an important part of our history. We know that 'Jaws' holds a special place in the hearts of our guests," the Orlando Sentinel quoted Universal spokesman Tom Schroder as saying. "But we always have to look to the future and dedicate ourselves to providing new, innovative entertainment experiences for our guests."

Schroder said the ride is being closed "to make room for what will be an exciting new attraction experience," but he gave no hints about the new ride.

"We can't wait to share details of our plans -- in due time," the Sentinel reported he said.
