South Korean documentary wins in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A South Korean documentary about a man blind and death since birth won best feature-length documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.

The documentary, Seung-Jun Yi's "Planet of Snail," which follows the man's interactions with the world and his wife, was an early audience favorite at the festival, which ended Sunday, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi's "5 Broken Cameras," about a Palestinian village's resistance to intruding Jewish settlements, won a special jury award and the audience award.

"Montenegro," by Argentinian director Jorge Gaggero, and the Chinese-Canadian co-production "Vanishing Spring Light" by first-timer Xun Yu also received international honors. Jessica Gorter's "900 Days" took the top Dutch award.

The 24th International Documentary Film Festival had more than 2,600 guests and boasted increased ticket sales, organizers said, adding it bodes well for the festival's future.
