LA critics salute Doris Day

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Doris Day has been selected to receive the Career Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the group said.

Day hasn't been on screen since the late 1960s, but the critics consider her body of work to still resonate, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Along with being a top-tier singer in the 1950s and 1960s, Day also was a box-office draw in movie hits such as "Pillow Talk," which earned her a nomination for the Best Actress Oscar in 1959, and Alfred Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much."

The Reporter said Day's fans have been urging the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group behind the Academy Awards, to pay a similar tribute to her.
