'Come As You Are' hailed at film festival

MADRID, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Spain's Valladolid Festival awarded its top prize to the Belgian comedy-drama "Come as You Are" this weekend.

"Come As You Are," was selected for the Golden Spike award from among a bevy of entrants that leaned toward exploration of social issues, Variety said.

Geoffrey Enthoven directed the film, which deals with a road trip by three special-needs young men out to lose their virginity.

The Silver Spike and Audience Awards went to "The Snows of Kilimanjaro," and Canada's "Monsieur Lazhar" received the Fipresci International Federation of Film Critics award.

Individual awards went to director Agniezska Holland and actress Zhou Dongyu. Patrick Huard and Brendan Gleeson tied in the actor category.
