LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The Eminem boxing movie "Southpaw" is getting back in the ring after being given a second chance with a new movie studio.

Variety said MGM has picked up the film, dropped by DreamWorks in August. It will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Production is expected to start next year on the story of a left-handed boxer, written by Eminem and "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter, The Hollywood Reporter said this week. It will be directed by Antoine Fuqua of "Training Day."

It will be Eminem's first major movie role since the 2002 drama "8 Mile," which grossed more than $240 worldwide, the industry trade magazine said.
