No. 1 'Lion' gets a lion's share

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- The 3D re-release of the 1994 animated feature "The Lion King" took the No. 1 U.S. box office spot during the weekend with $29.3 million.

The thriller "Contagion," with Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet in an ensemble cast, took the No. 2 spot with $14.48 million.

All studio estimates of gross U.S. box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Drive (2011)" was third with more than $11.01 million; "The Help" fourth with more than $6.43 million in its sixth weekend; "Straw Dogs (2011)" fifth with $5 million; "I Don't Know How She Does It" sixth with more than $4.5 million; "The Debt " seventh with more than $2.94 million; "Warrior" eighth with $2.77 million; "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" ninth with more than $2.62 million.

"Colombiana" was 10th with $2.3 million.
