'Contagion' catches on at U.S. box office

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- "Contagion," with Matt Damon and an ensemble cast, won the No. 1 spot for the weekend with more than $23.13 million at the U.S. box office.

"The Help," with another ensemble cast led by by Emma Stone, was second with more than $8.69 million after three weekends in the No. 1 spot.

All studio estimates of gross domestic receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Warrior" was third with more than $5.6 million; "The Debt" fourth with more than $4.9 million; "Colombiana" fifth with $4 million; "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" sixth with more than $3.87 million; "Shark Night" seventh with more than $3.53 million; "Apollo 18" eighth with more than $2.91 million; and "Our Idiot Brother" ninth with more than $2.76 million.

"Spy Kids: All the Time in the World," rounded out the top 10 with more than $2.5 million.
