'Grease' star Annette Charles dead at 63

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Annette Charles' publicist says the actress has died of complications from cancer at her Los Angeles home. She was 63.

The actress was best known for playing Cha Cha in the 1978 movie musical "Grease." She also appeared on the TV shows "Bonanza," "Barnaby Jones," "The Bionic Woman" and "Magnum, P.I."

TMZ said Charles died Wednesday night.

"Annette had recently started having difficulty breathing ... and when she went to the doctor she learned that she had a cancerous tumor in one of her lungs," an unidentified family member told the celebrity news Web site Thursday.

No other details were immediately available.

Jeff Conaway, Charles' "Grease" co-star, died May 27 at the age of 60. The actor, who had battled an addiction to drugs for years, was taken off life support after suffering from pneumonia.
