'From Here to Eternity' to be musical

LONDON, May 31 (UPI) -- "From Here to Eternity," James Jones' 1951 novel about a soldier's life in World War II, will be a musical in London's theater district, promoters said.

The musical version of Jones' classic set on an Army base in Hawaii, scheduled to open in 2012, will be produced by Tim Rice and Lee Menzies, Variety reported.

Rice will contribute lyrics to a score by Stuart Brayson with a book by Bill Oakes, the trade publication said. The production will be directed by Tamara Harvey.

Fred Zinneman's 1953 movie adaptation starred Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, Montgomery Clift, Ernest Borgnine, Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed. It won eight Academy Awards.
