LOS ANGELES, May 26 (UPI) -- U.S. director David O. Russell will not helm the big-screen adaptation of the video game "Uncharted" as planned, EW.com reported Thursday.

Variety said Russell left the project due to creative differences with Sony, the studio backing the movie.

EW.com said the director had hoped to make the film with Mark Wahlberg.

Russell and Wahlberg previously collaborated together on "Three Kings," "I Heart Huckabee's" and "The Fighter," but Wahlberg was not formally attached to "Uncharted," EW.com.
