LOS ANGELES, March 13 (UPI) -- Alien-invasion flick "Battle: Los Angeles" debuted at the top of the U.S. box office during the weekend, grossing $36 million.
The animated "Rango," featuring the voice of Johnny Depp, dropped to No. 2 in its second week with $23 million.
All studio estimates of gross box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.
"Red Riding Hood" opened at No. 3 with $14.1 million, "The Adjustment Bureau" was No. 4 at $11.5 million and "Mars Needs Moms" opened at No. 5 with $6.8 million.
"Hall Pass" was sixth with $5.1 million, "Beastly" was seventh with $5.1 million, "Just Go With It" was eighth with $4 million and the Oscar-winning "The King's Speech" came in ninth with $3.6 million.
"Gnomeo and Juliet" rounded out the Top 10 with $3.5 million.
