NEW YORK, March 7 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Gwyneth Paltrow is in negotiations with Atlantic Records to record a country music album, a source told the New York Post.

Paltrow, who won a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in "Shakespeare in Love," is seen singing in the films "Duets" and "Country Strong." The wife of pop singer Chris Martin also recently performed at the Grammy and Academy awards shows, and on the music-themed TV series, "Glee."

"Gwyneth's agents have been talking to a number of labels about landing her a substantial record deal," a source told the Post. "Those who have heard the music say it's country pop. Many labels would be reluctant to give a deal to a star whose first priority is film, but in recent weeks there have been discussions with Atlantic. Gwyneth is a very different name for Atlantic, and one who brings a lot of recognition."

The newspaper said Paltrow's publicist didn't respond to its requests for a comment on the story.

Atlantic declined to discuss the matter, the Post said.
