BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Chuck Viane, who heads global distribution for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, will retire in July, the Burbank, Calif., studio announced.

Disney said Dave Hollis, who has been with the company for 10 years, is being promoted to executive vice president of theatrical exhibition and sales, and will work with Viane until the 25-year Disney veteran leaves his post in July, Daily Variety reported Monday.

Walt Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross said Viane is "one of the most knowledgeable and savvy individuals in the film industry."

"Throughout his distinguished career at Disney, he has proven himself to be a rare legend, deeply respected by those who have had the privilege to work with him here as well as by exhibitors and colleagues around the world," Ross said.

Although his retirement is effective in July, Viane will serve a consultant for about a year, Variety said.

During Viane's time at Disney, the studio has posted annual box-office receipts of $1 billion or more 13 times, the trade publication said.
