LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis are to reprise their "Lord of the Rings" roles in "The Hobbit," which is to start shooting in New Zealand next month.

McKellen played Gandalf and Serkis played Gollum in the "Rings" blockbusters, which are set after the events of "The Hobbit."

The Hollywood Reporter said Monday McKellen and Serkis have signed on to the two-part movie, which, like the "Rings" trilogy, is being directed by Peter Jackson.

"Rings" co-stars Elijah Wood and Cate Blanchett are also to return for "The Hobbit," the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.
