'Winter's Bone' wins top Gotham Award

NEW YORK, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- "Winter's Bone" was named best feature at the Gotham Independent Film Awards ceremony in New York, the Independent Filmmaker Project announced.

The drama also earned the best ensemble title for stars Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, Dale Dickey, Lauren Sweetser, Garret Dillahunt, Devin Breznahan.

The prize presentation took place Monday night at New York's Cipriani Wall Street.

The winner of the best documentary award was director-producer Laura Poitras's "The Oath." Director Mike Ott's "Littlerock" garnered the accolade for "best film not playing at a theater near you."

Kevin Asch, the writer and director of "Holy Rollers," won the prize for breakthrough director, while Ronald Bronstein, star of "Daddy Longlegs," picked up the trophy for breakthrough actor.

The "festival genius" audience award was presented to the filmmakers behind the documentary "Waiting for Superman" -- director Davis Guggenheim, and producers Leslie Chilcott and Michael Brietal.
