COLLINGSWOOD, N.J., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- "Top Gun" star Kelly McGillis has entered into a civil union with a female sales executive in Collingswood, N.J.

Judge Robert T. Zane united McGillis, 53, and Melanie Leis, 42, in a municipal court ceremony Wednesday, The New York Times reported.

McGillis has also appeared in the movies "Witness," and "The Accused," and has performed on stage and on television, including two 2008 episodes of "The L Word" on Showtime.

The couple met in 2000, when Leis was a bartender at a restaurant McGillis owned with her second husband, Fred Tillman, in Key West, Fla., the Times said. She and Tillman have two daughters, Kelsey Laure, 20, and Sonora Ashley, 17.

The twice-wed McGillis announced last year she is a lesbian.

Leis is a sales executive in Philadelphia with Independence Communications, which provides Muzak to businesses.

McGinnis' latest movie is "Stake Land," a vampire film being screened this week at the Toronto Film Festival.
