MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The Minnesota man who bought one of the wood-hull boats used in the movie "On Golden Pond" took it for a trip on Forest Lake Thursday.

The 1981 film, widely regarded as a modern classic, was shot in New Hampshire. It received 10 Academy Award nominations and won three Oscars -- including acting awards for Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn.

The (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported the 60-year-old Chris-Craft Sportsman named "Thayer IV," which was featured in the film, sold on eBay early last year for $47,000.

Its new owner has since had it completely refurbished and said he plans to take it out only a few times of year because he wants to preserve it.

"It's an important part of American culture," Jeff Thom, a Mankato-area food manufacturing owner, told the newspaper. "(The movie) is one of my wife's favorites, and we bought it with that mind."
