Myrna Loy returns to LA high school

LOS ANGELES, April 11 (UPI) -- Actor Beau Bridges was among hundreds of people celebrating the return of a Myrna Loy statue outside a Los Angeles high school.

"I really believe that our journey begins with our history," said Bridges, a former Venice High student who was in a film with Loy when he was only 6-years-old, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Bridges and the other celebrants were at a festival Saturday celebrating the sculpture built with donations from Venice High School alumni.

The original statue was designed by Harry Winebrenner in the 1920s based on a student at the school -- Myrna Williams who went on to become the acclaimed actress, Myrna Loy, the Times said.

Loy died in New York City in 1993 at age 88.
