Beau Bridges joins 'Rockford' cast

LOS ANGELES, March 19 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Beau Bridges has signed on to play Rocky, Jim's father, on the upcoming television remake of "Rockford Files," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Dermot Mulroney is to play private investigator Jim in the new series, which is being written and executive produced by "House" creator David Shore, and executive produced by "The Office" star Steve Carell.

James Garner played the role of Jim in the original series, which ran from to 1974-1980. Noah Beery Jr. originated the character of Rocky.

Bridges recently had a recurring role on the comedy series "My Name Is Earl." His film credits include "Norma Rae," "The Fabulous Baker Boys" and "Jerry Maguire."
