LONDON, March 18 (UPI) -- Production on the latest screen adaptation of the literary classic "Jane Eyre" is to begin next week in the United Kingdom, Focus Features said.

The romantic drama based on Charlotte Bronte's novel is a collaboration between Focus and BBC Films. It is being produced by Ruby Films.

Cary Fukunaga, whose debut feature was Focus' award-winning "Sin Nombre," is directing "Jane Eyre," to which Focus holds the worldwide rights.

The film is set to star Mia Wasikowska as the titular governess and Michael Fassbender as Edward Rochester, her wealthy and mysterious employer.

"Cary is the ideal choice to realize this unforgettable story in its traditional setting, yet with contemporary vitality and spirit. With two of today's most promising new stars in Mia and Michael, plus an outstanding supporting cast, this will be a 'Jane Eyre' for the ages," Focus Chief Executive Officer James Schamus said in a statement Thursday.
