NEW YORK, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Nathan Fillion, Linda Cardellini, Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon have been cast in James Gunn's "Super," the U.S. film's producers said.

Many of the movie's stars collaborated with writer/director Gunn on previous projects such as "Slither," "Scooby-Doo" and "Tromeo and Juliet," as well as on his various Web series.

"Wilson plays Frank, a seemingly average Joe who is madly in love with his troubled wife Sarah, played by Tyler. But when Sarah leaves Frank for Jacques, a smooth-talking drug dealer, played by Kevin Bacon, Frank transforms into pseudo superhero The Crimson Bolt, stakes out Jacques's sleazy hideaway, and wages a one-man war on crime. What he lacks in superpowers, he makes up for with a trusty pipe wrench," the filmmakers said in a news release Monday.

The project is currently shooting in Louisiana.

"These are people I like and admire but with whom I also share common creative goals. It helps imbue 'Super' with an uncommon life, warmth, and energy. 'Super' is an act of love for all of us, and it's wonderful having the people I love the most helping me make it," Gunn said in a statement.
