'Avatar' again No. 1 at U.S. box office

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- "Avatar" retained the No. 1 spot at the U.S. box office, pulling in $75 million during the Christmas weekend after last weekend's $77 million.

"Sherlock Holmes" was a strong No. 2 during its opening weekend with $65.38 million.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" was third with an impressive $50.2 million; "It's Complicated" fourth with more than $22.11 million; "Up in the Air" fifth with more than $11.75 million; "The Blind Side" sixth with $11.73 million.

"The Princess and the Frog" seventh with more than $8.68 million; "Nine" eighth with more than $5.54 million in limited release; "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" ninth with $5 million.

And "Invictus" rounded out the top 10 with $4.39 million.
