ROME, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- British actress Helen Mirren was honored for her role in "The Last Station" with a best actress award at the Rome International Film Festival.
Mirren, 64, received the festival's Silver Marc Aurelio Jury Award Friday for her portrayal of Sofia Tolstoy, wife of famed Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy, in the movie from director Michael Hoffman, The Daily Telegraph reported.
The winner of the festival's Golden Marc Aurelio Jury Award for Best Film went to "Brotherhood," Nicolo Donato's offering about two neo-Nazis having a gay love affair.
Italian actor Sergio Castellitto was honored for his role in "Alza la Testa" with a Silver Marc Aurelio Jury Award for best actor.
Also honored was U.S. actress Meryl Streep, who was given a career achievement award by Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore.
The Telegraph said Streep was also honored with a retrospective of her cinematic career, including an out-of-competition screening of her recent film, "Julie & Julia."
