Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth grace red carpet for Toronto International Film Festival [PHOTOS]

Stars turn out for Toronto International Film Festival screenings, including surprise appearance by Brad Pitt.

The Toronto International Film Festival opened this weekend with the likes of Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth stepping out on the red carpet in support of their films.

Kidman and Firth were on hand for a screening of their war drama, "The Railway Man," Friday. Also in attendance was the film's director, Jonathan Teplitzky.

Brad Pitt made a surprise appearance Friday for a screening of "12 Years a Slave," for which he starred and produced, the CBC said.

Paul Giamatti, Paul Landesman and Zac Efron were on hand for a screening of their film, "Parkland," about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The film festival is ongoing through Sept. 15.
