Solange Knowles, sister Beyonce skip father's wedding

Solange Knowles and sister Beyonce missed their father's wedding last month in Houston, Texas, because they had previous engagements, father Mathew Knowles said.

Mathew, 61, married former model Gena Charmaine Avery, 48, June 30 he told Us Weekly.

"Unfortunately, Beyonce and Solange had previous engagements which made it impossible for them to attend," he said in a statement.

Mathew divorced the singers' mother, Tina Knowles, in 2011 after 31 years of marriage.

Mathew was managing Beyonce's career until she decided to part ways in June 2011.

"I've only parted ways with my father on a business level," Beyonce said at the time. "He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly. I am grateful for everything he has taught me. I grew up watching both he and my mother [Tina Knowles] manage and own their own businesses. They were hard-working entrepreneurs and I will continue to follow in their footsteps."
