News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch has filed for divorce from his third wife, Wendi Deng.
Deng sparked controversy in 2011 after defending her husband during a phone hacking scandal, and later for trying to block a man from throwing a shaving-cream pie at him during the hearing. She was born in China and graduated from Yale.
The couple was married for 14 years and had two daughters together, but the "relationship between husband and wife has broken down irretrievably," the filing said. The daughters, 11 and 9 years old, are the youngest of Murdoch's six children.
Murdoch, 82, and Deng, 44, first met on a business trip to China just one year after Murdoch's divorce from second wife Anna, to whom he was married for 31 years.
That divorce cost Murdoch $1.7 billion, $100 million in cash.
Details about their prenuptial agreement have not yet been released, but the divorce could be lucrative for Deng. Murdoch is worth $11.2 billion and is No. 91
