Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Elon Musk says he is preparing to fight Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg in a cage fight he said will be streamed on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Musk tweeted Sunday that all proceeds from the fight will go to a veterans charity.

"Am lifting weights throughout the day, preparing for the fight," Musk wrote. "Don't have time to work out, so I just bring them to work."

The battle over social media dominance has heated up between Musk and Zuckerberg after Meta launched its new app Threads as a direct competitor to his version of Twitter.

Twitter responded by sending a cease-and-desist letter to Meta, alleging it has engaged in unlawful misappropriation of trade secrets and other intellectual property.

The cage fight between the tech billionaires had been rumored prior to the letter. Musk tweeted in late June that he would be willing to fight Zuckerberg. The Meta owner responded in an Instagram story featuring the tweet captioned "Send Me Location," CNN reported.

Zuckerberg has since posted videos of him training in jiu-jitsu and posing with UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya.
