May 14 (UPI) -- Britney Spears and her fiancé Sam Asghari on Saturday announced the loss of her unborn baby just weeks after announcing her pregnancy. "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy. This is a devastating time for any parent," Spears, 40, said in a message to fans on Instagram.

"Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along. However, we were overly excited to share the good news. Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family."
Spears added that she and Ashgari are "grateful" for the support from fans but ask for privacy "during this difficult moment."
The "Baby One More Time" singer announced that she was pregnant with her third child, her first with Asghari, on April 11. She has two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
She later said that she would be taking a hiatus from social media "for a little while" as she focused on her pregnancy.
Spears and Asghari got engaged in September 2021 amid her conservatorship battle, which a judge ended in November.
The pop star testified during court hearings during her fight to end her conservatorship that she had wanted to have another child but was prevented from getting off birth control.
