Oscar-winner, Marvel actor William Hurt dead at 71

March 13 (UPI) -- The Big Chill and Kiss of the Spider Woman actor William Hurt -- who was recently seen in several Marvel blockbusters -- has died at his home in Portland, Ore. He was 71.

His son, Will, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter and his friend Gerry Byrne announced the death in Variety.

No cause has been publicly disclosed.

Hurt's film credits include Body Heat, Children of a Lesser God, Broadcast News, The Accidental Tourist, Mr. Wonderful, I Love You to Death, Gorky Park, The Good Shepherd, Into the Wild, The Village and A History of Violence.

He played Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross in the Marvel movies The Incredible Hulk (2008), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Black Widow (2021,) and also co-starred in the TV series, Damages, Goliath and Condor.

Hurt studied at New York's famed Juilliard school. Christopher Reeve, Robin Williams and Mandy Patinkin were among his classmates.
