Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Michael Constantine, an actor best known for his role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, has died at the age of 94.

Constantine's agent Julia Buchwald confirmed the actor's death to CNN.

Constantine died in Reading, Pa., in August after dealing with a long illness, his family confirmed to Reading Eagle.

Constantine famously portrayed overprotective father Gus Portokalos in 2002's My Big Fat Greek Wedding and its 2016 sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. Constantine's character was a proud Greek man who liked to use Windex to heal any injury.

He also starred in television series My Big Fat Greek Life in 2003. The show only lasted one season on CBS.

The actor won an Emmy in 1970 for his role in ABC series Room 222 where he portrayed principal Seymour Kaufman.

He also made appearances on The Love Boat, Remington Steele, MacGyver, Airwolf, Simon & Simon, Murder, She Wrote and more.
