Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Stars and filmmakers such as Wendell Pierce, Joel McHale, Spike Lee, Ava DuVernay and more paid tribute to actor Michael K. Williams on social media following his death. Williams' family announced the actor's death at the age of 54 on Monday. He was found dead in the living room of his Brooklyn apartment, according to reports.

Williams was best known for starring in The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, 12 Years a Slave, The Night Of, Lovecraft Country and more.
"The depth of my love for this brother, can only be matched by the depth of my pain learning of his loss. A immensely talented man with the ability to give voice to the human condition portraying the lives of those whose humanity is seldom elevated until he sings their truth," Pierce, who starred on The Wire, said on Twitter.
"Shocked and saddened by the death of Michael K. Williams. One of the nicest brothers on the planet with the biggest heart. An amazing actor and soul. May you RIP. God bless," fellow Wire star Isiah Whitlock Jr. said on Twitter.
"Too gutted right now to say all that ought to be said. Michael was a fine man and a rare talent and on our journey together he always deserved the best words. And today those words won't come," Wire creator David Simon said on Twitter.
"Damn. Just damn. Mr. Williams was such a Good, kind, wonderful man. He was so funny on Community and, of course, an actor for the ages," Community star McHale said on Twitter.
"Our Brother Passed Away Today In His Home, Da People's Republic Of Brooklyn. I'm Shook. Drinking A Bottle Of Italian Red Wine-Brunello Di Montalcino By Myself. Our Greats Are Leaving Us Left And Right. GOD BLESS," Lee said on Instagram alongside a photo of himself watching a basketball game with Williams.
"Maya Angelou once said, your legacy lives on in every life you touch. You, brother, touched many. Through your personal interactions big and small, through your community activism, through your struggles, through your triumphs, through your glorious work. You moved many. You moved me. What you doubted in life, be certain of now, dear brother. Be certain. You were a flash of love - now gone. But never forgotten," DuVernay, who worked with Williams on When They See Us said on Instagram alongside multiple photos of the actor.
"An original. One of a kind. No one like him," Community star Yvette Nicole Brown said on Instagram alongside a broken heart emoji and a photo of herself posing with Williams.
