The Met Gala is returning in 2021 with a two-part exhibition on American fashion. The Sept. 13 event is happening alongside the launch of the "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" exhibit with the dress code centered around "American Independence."

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute will then present a larger gala on May 2, 2022 for the launch of the "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" exhibit on May 5.

Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet, Naomi Osaka and Amanda Gorman are serving as co-chairs for the 2021 Met Gala. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, designer Tom Ford and Instagram head Adam Mosseri are serving as honorary chairs.

All attendees at the 2021 Met Gala must provide proof of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine and will be required to wear a mask indoors.
