Williams told NBC News that Banes was hospitalized in critical condition at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital after a motorized bicycle or scooter ran a red light and struck her on June 4.

Banes suffered a traumatic brain injury in the collision and was unable to recover.

"We are heartsick over Lisa's tragic and senseless passing," Williams said. "She was a woman of great spirit, kindness and generosity and dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera and even more so to her wife, family and friends. We were blessed to have had her in our lives."

As an actress, Banes appeared on Broadway and in films and TV. She played Marybeth, the mother of Amy (Rosamund Pike), in Gone Girl, and also portrayed Victoria on Six Feet Under and Ellen Collins on Royal Pains.

Banes most recently appeared on the Amazon Prime Video series Them.

Seth MacFarlane, who worked with Banes on his show The Orville, was among those to pay tribute to the actress on social media.

"I am deeply saddened at the news of Lisa Banes' passing. We had the good fortune to work with her on The Orville this past year. Her stage presence, magnetism, skill and talent were matched only by her unwavering kindness and graciousness toward all of us. A tremendous loss..." MacFarlane tweeted.

Banes is survived by her wife, Kathryn Kranhold.
