June 1 (UPI) -- James Corden hopes to resume Carpool Karaoke in the summer.
The 42-year-old television personality and actor gave an update on the series during Tuesday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Carpool Karaoke originated as a segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden. The series follows Corden and a celebrity guest as they drive around together and sing to popular music.
On Ellen, Corden said production on Carpool Karaoke is still on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We wonder when someone will tell us when it's okay," Corden said. "I'm hopeful for the end of summer or autumn time that we'd be able to do it again. It feels like there's a whole raft of artists that we are desperate to do it with."
"We seem to work in the strictest building and maybe on Earth," he added. "So I hope so much that we'll be able to do it before the end of the year."
Carpool Karaoke has featured such stars as Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande. On Ellen, Corden shared a secret about Stevie Wonder's appearance on the show.
"We thought maybe that it'll be fun if Stevie would call Julia, my wife, and sing, 'I Just Called to Say James Loves You.' And I didn't tell her that he was going to call and he did. And what's on TV is really moving. I couldn't help but be overwhelmed with it," Corden said.
"What I didn't know is when I got home, my wife Julia was actually in a bathroom stall at a restaurant when the phone rang. So I had this gorgeous image of her just being completely overwhelmed with emotion. But she was just literally in a toilet at a restaurant as he was singing this love song down the phone," he added.
Carpool Karaoke has also been adapted as an Apple TV+ series featuring different celebrity hosts and guests.
