May 17 (UPI) -- Universal Champion Roman Reigns defended his title against Cesaro and WWE Champion Bobby Lashley had his title on the line against Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat match at WWE WrestleMania Backlash.

Reigns battled Cesaro in the main event on Sunday. The champ was accompanied to the ring by his special counsel Paul Heyman after he told his cousin Jey Uso to stay behind. Reigns had issues earlier in the night with Jey Uso's twin brother Jimmy Uso who wasn't convinced that Reigns could win.

The bout represented Cesaro's first world championship match in WWE. Heyman previously remarked on SmackDown Friday that Reigns has been in 39 world championship matches, with his contest against Cesaro being his 40th.

Cesaro surprised Reigns at first with a couple of near-falls, forcing the Universal Champion to exit the ring and take a breather as Heyman gave advice. Cesaro continued to stay in control by later avoiding a Superman punch and nailing Reigns with a Pop-Up Uppercut.

Reigns started to fight back by focusing on Cesaro's right arm. Reigns was able to counter Cesaro's Neutralizer with an Armbar and landed a Superman Punch after Cesaro attempted a Springboard.

Jey Uso entered the ring afterwards and placed a lei around Reigns' neck, furthering cementing his loyalty to his cousin. Jey Uso then relentlessly attacked Cesaro before Seth Rollins also entered the ring to assault Cesaro.

Rollins placed Cesaro's injured right arm inside of a steel chair and slammed it into the ring post as WrestleMania Backlash went off the air.

Lashley had the odds stacked against him against McIntyre and Strowman in the Triple Threat match. Lashley was joined at ringside by his manager MVP.

The All Mighty formed a temporary alliance with McIntyre to help take down Strowman. The unlikely duo worked together to deliver a thunderous Suplex to Strowman. The Monster Among Men later got revenge by using the steel steps outside the ring.

Lashley then delivered a Spear to Strowman to win the match and remain WWE Champion.

Raw Women's Champion Rhea Ripley also defended her title in a Triple Threat match against Charlotte Flair and Asuka. Flair pulled out all the stops during the bout by performing an impressive Moonsault from the top rope in order to crash land onto Ripley and Asuka outside the ring.
