Fisher appears in a video that shows him undergoing hair and makeup to transform into Evan Hansen for a photo shoot.

"I'll never forget the first time that I saw Dear Evan Hansen," he says in the clip. "It pierced me with truth, and with honesty, and with integrity. That is the foundation of this story that I'm so excited to help be a part of telling."

Fisher begins his 16-week limited engagement Jan. 28 at Music Box Theatre in New York.

"Evan Hansen is a 16-course meal for an actor. The complexity of this boy is akin to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in my opinion," Fisher said in a statement to People. "I'll doubt I'll ever forget the first time I sat in the Music Box to see it, and the idea of being part of that memory for others is mind-blowing. I'm so honored to join this amazing company."

Dear Evan Hansen features music by Benj Pasek, lyrics by Pasek and Justin Paul, and a book by Steven Levenson. The musical follows Evan Hansen, a high school student with social anxiety. Ben Platt originated the role on Broadway.

Fisher celebrated his casting in an Instagram post Tuesday.

"I'll never forget the evening I got to see the incomparable Ben Platt take me on a journey through the troubled heart and soul of Evan Hansen," he wrote. "I'm beyond honored to return to Broadway and climb this mountain of a role every night."

Fisher made his Broadway debut as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in the musical Hamilton in 2016.

Fisher is known for appearing in Teen Beach Movie, Liv and Maddie, Grease: Live and Rent: Live. He also won Season 25 of Dancing with the Stars in 2017.
