Tiffany Haddish says she's open to hosting Oscars

By Annie Martin

Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Tiffany Haddish says she would host the Oscars on a couple of conditions.

The 39-year-old actress and comedian addressed rumors she will host the 2020 Academy Awards during Sunday's episode of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.

Host Jimmy Fallon filled in Haddish on the rumors she will host the Oscars in January.

"That's what's up. That's probably the whole African diaspora," Haddish said of the reports.

Haddish said she's open to hosting if she had a co-host.

"I would, if they paid me and I could do it with somebody," she said. "I don't want all that pressure on me, because I'mma lose my hair and then I'mma really have to wear wigs all the time. Too much stress."

Haddish then said she would host solo if she was paid "a lot of money."

"I would have it hot. It would be so much fun," she said. "We would have twerk contests and everything. I would get Meryl Streep up there to twerk with Susan Sarandon. It would be crazy."

Haddish announced the Oscars nominations in 2018 and presented an award with Maya Rudolph at the 2018 ceremony. She said at SXSW in March 2018 that she'd be open to hosting the Oscars in the future.

"I would love to do something like that, that would be a dream come true," Haddish said. "I know my father would be extremely proud if I got to do that. As long as I get a paycheck."

The 2019 Oscars were awarded without a host after actor and comedian Kevin Hart stepped down after past homophobic tweets resurfaced online. Hart will address the scandal in a new Netflix docu-series.

Haddish has a new Netflix comedy special, Black Mitzvah, premiering Tuesday on her 40th birthday. She opens the special by performing "Hava Nagila," which she also performed on The Tonight Show.
