Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Steve Coogan will receive a special award for his contributions to comedy at the 2019 Britannia Awards.
BAFTA Los Angeles, a branch of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, announced in a tweet Tuesday the 53-year-old British actor will be honored with the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for excellence in comedy in October.
The 2019 Britannia Awards will take place Oct. 25 in Los Angeles. The awards show will air on BritBox subscription streaming service.
"We are delighted to announce that Steve Coogan will receive the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy presented by @JaguarUSA @LandRoverUSA at the 2019 British Academy Britannia Awards," the post reads. "Catch the #Britannias ceremony on @BritBox_US on October 25!"
Previous recipients of the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award include Betty White, Ben Stiller, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ricky Gervais and Jim Carrey.
"Throughout his three-decade career, Coogan has mastered the art of making people laugh and continues to entertain audiences with his brilliant portrayal of comedic characters. His most popular creation -- the politically incorrect media personality, Alan Partridge -- garnered him worldwide recognition as one of the greatest TV characters," BAFTA Los Angeles CEO Chantal Rickards said in a statement.
"Coogan's countless achievements make him an incredibly deserving recipient of this year's Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for excellence in comedy. We look forward to honoring him in October," she added.
Coogan is known for the series On the Hour and The Day Today and the films The Parole Officer, The Trip, Philomena and Stan & Ollie. He reprised Partridge in the BBC One series This Time with Alan Partridge this year.
BAFTA Los Angeles previously announced that Jane Fonda will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for excellence in film. Jackie Chan will be honored with the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for worldwide contribution to entertainment.
