The games, which will also be released as part of a double pack, will be taking place in a new setting known as the Galar Region. The new location features contemporary cities, vast plains, snow-covered mountains and Pokemon living and working together alongside humans.

The Galar Region's most popular form of entertainment revolves around Pokemon battles which take place inside packed stadiums full of excited fans. The region also features the expansive Wild Area where players can explore and find new Pokemon depending on the time of day and weather.

Unique to Sword and Shield will be the ability to transform your Pokemon during battle into giant, towering forms of themselves. The process, known as Dynamaxing, can be used once during battle, lasts for three turns, and makes Pokemon stronger then ever.

Additionally, up to four players can team up online or locally through multiple Switch systems to take on powerful Dynamax Pokemon together. Once the enemy is defeated, it can be captured.

The options include Grookey, a grass type known as the chimp Pokemon, Scorbunny, a fire type known as the rabbit Pokemon and Sobble, a water type known as the water lizard Pokemon.

Other new Pokemon coming to Sword and Shield include Wooloo, the sheep Pokemon; Gossifleur, the Flowering Pokemon who can evolve into Eldegoss; Drednaw, the bite Pokemon; and Corviknight, the raven Pokemon.
