May 23 (UPI) -- Developer Panic has announced a new handheld video game system that will come with 12 games named Playdate.
Playdate, which will arrive in early 2020 for $149, offers a 2.7 black and white screen with two face buttons and a unique crank control on the side.
The pocket-sized, yellow console's 12 games are included for free with purchase of the device with one title arriving each week.
The games, which Panic wants to keep secret in order to surprise owners, arrive from developers such as Keita Takahashi (Katamari Damacy), Zach Gage (SpellTower), Bennett Foddy (QWOP) and Shaun Inman (The Last Rocket).
Panic, known for publishing video games such as Firewatch the upcoming Untitled Goose Game, posted on Twitter a short demonstration of how the crank controller can work on Playdate title Crankin's Time Travel Adventure. The title has players winding up the crank in order to move a character around.
Panic says more information regarding Playdate will be released at a later date. The company partnered with Teenage Engineering in designing the console.
"We love video games. We love the places they take us and the feeling they give us. We've grown up with them. It sounds silly, but they really mean a lot to us. Playdate is our celebration of the video game," Panic said.
